The Los Angeles Lakers didn’t make any moves before the traded deadline but will be picking up a notable upcoming free agent. According to Shams Charania, Spencer Dinwiddie will be joining the Lakers once he clears waivers with the Toronto Raptors.
Dinwiddie was moved to the Raptors by the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for Dennis Schröder and Thaddeus Young and was then waived by Toronto. The veteran combo guard will now be signing with the Lakers and get an opportunity to have a “significant role” on the team’s roster, Charania reports.
The Lakers are adding an experienced player next to LeBron James and Anthony Davis with a history of strong performances in the playoffs. The team, now 28 – 26 and ninth in the Western Conference standings, is aiming to significantly improve its position and boost its championship potential.
Over 48 games with the Nets in 2023-24, Dinwiddie averaged 12.6 points, 6.0 assists and 3.3 rebounds.
