Circulating reports are making noise around the Golden State Warriors.
Before the NBA Trade Deadline on Thursday, the Warriors contacted the Los Angeles Lakers in an unsuccessful effort to negotiate a trade for LeBron James, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelburne. Sam Amick, Anthony Slater, and Jovan Buha of The Athletic confirmed the report attaching sidenotes about involved teams well shy of nearing a deal and more household names to the wishlist.
Despite the failed attempt, the Warriors revealed intentions to bring a superstar to pair with Stephen Curry. Down the stretch of his legendary career, the four-time NBA champion requires more help with traditional sidekicks Klay Thompson and Draymond Green in decline. Besides James, Giannis Antetokounmpo resurfaced as a candidate to join forces with Curry.
Antetokounmpo, 29, is far from a stranger to such rumors. Pledging his future to the Milwaukee Bucks in October, his contract was extended until the end of the 2026-27 season, and has a player option for the 2027-28 season. However, a trade remains a possibility, especially if the Warriors are aggressive in the market. Paul George and Kevin Durant are other mentioned stars with similar obstacles to a potential path to San Francisco.
At 26-26 in the 2023-24 Regular Season, the team coached by Steve Kerr is at the bottom end of the Western Conference’s Play-In zone. Wrapping up the schedule before the All-Star break, they visit the Utah Jazz in Delta Center on Thursday.
