Golden State Warriors‘ Steve Kerr is becoming the highest-paid coach in the history of the NBA.
Per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the two-year extension deal that Kerr will be signing with the Warriors will earn him $17.5 million per season for a total number of 35. This is the biggest annual salary that any NBA coach has ever landed.
The one exception to this is San Antonio Spurs longtime head coach Gregg Popovich but his salary also covers the role he has as president of basketball operations.
A four-time NBA champion as Warriors coach, Kerr was on an expiring contract before he agreed to the two-year extension that will keep him at the helm of the team at least until 2026. By that time, he will have spent 12 years with Golden State.
The Warriors hired Kerr in 2014 to give him his first job as coach. With Steph Curry and Klay Thompson pacing an impressive offense, he led the team to its first championship title since 1975 that same year.
In 2017 and 2018, the Warriors, now with Kevin Durant also on board, were crowned back-to-back NBA champions and won another title in 2022.
