Missing a second straight game for the first time in his NBA career, Victor Wembanyama was excused from the remainder of a three-game road trip. He traveled from Houston to San Antonio in unusual transport after spraining his right ankle against the Houston Rockets on Tuesday.
Going to San Antonio for medical evaluation, he made a trip of about 300 kilometers via a van, as reported by Jeff McDonald of The San Antonio Express-News. After sitting out the game against the Sacramento Kings on Thursday, the San Antonio Spurs ruled him out versus the Golden State Warriors on Saturday.
The team coached by Gregg Popovich is 0-7 without Wemby in the lineup, heading to the bottom end of the three-game road trip and meeting the Warriors in Chase Center on tonight’s edition of NBA Saturdays. A record of 13-50 in the 2023-24 NBA Regular Season ranks at the bottom of the Western Conference standings and third from last in the overall league standings.
Barring a setback, the French prodigy is expected to return to action as the Spurs and Warriors switch from San Francisco to Frost Bank Center on Monday. Over 56 appearances in his first NBA campaign, he averaged 20.7 points and 10.3 rebounds per contest.
Also on the injury list, Turkish Cedi Osman was ruled out from the top half of the home-and-away series after spraining his left ankle against the Kings. For the Warriors, Stephen Curry is sidelined with a right ankle sprain.
