In the recent 113-104 loss in overtime against Cleveland, Minnesota’s own Rudy Gobert was ejected and awarded a technical foul that permitted the Cavaliers to tie at 97-97 late in the game.

Afterward, he made a money gesture to the refereeing trio that will now cost him tons of dollars. The French center was indeed “fined $100,000 for directing an inappropriate and unprofessional gesture toward a game official, and publicly criticizing the officiating”, as officially announced by the NBA.

The official press release from the NBA goes deeper into the sanction. “The fine takes into account Gobert’s past instances of conduct detrimental to the NBA with regard to publicly criticizing the officiating”, the statement says.

In an important season so far for the Minnesota Timberwolves, the former Utah Jazz center has been averaging 13.8 points and 12.9 rebounds per game.
