After dropping 40 points on the New York Knicks, Victor Wembanyama’s reaction at the end of the home affair attracted a fine.

The NBA announced the sanction on Sunday.

Per the press release: “San Antonio Spurs forward-center Victor Wembanyama has been fined $25,000 for throwing the game ball into the spectator stands, it was announced today by Joe Dumars, Executive Vice President, Head of Basketball Operations.

The incident occurred following the conclusion of the Spurs’ 130-126 overtime victory over the New York Knicks on March 29 at Frost Bank Center.”

Wemby improved his career-high to 40 points. The 20-year-old French international added 20 rebounds, seven assists, two steals, and one block in a rare winning display since joining the league as the top pick of the 2023 NBA draft. His reaction after the buzzer warranted a fine, countering a career night.

The leading candidate for the NBA Rookie of the Year Award is up to 21.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 3.4 blocks, and 1.2 steals per contest over 65 appearances, all starts under the guidance of Gregg Popovich. At 18-56, his side was the first team to be eliminated from the 2024 Playoffs but is building a bid to avoid finishing last in the Western Conference.

With eight games remaining in the 2023-24 Regular Season, balanced between four at home and four on the road, the Spurs resume action on tonight’s installment of the NBA Sundays, hosting the Golden State Warriors in Frost Bank Center.
