As officially announced by the Charlotte Hornets, 39-year-old Charles Lee is taking over the head coaching position of the franchise replacing Steve Clifford.
In the 2023-24 Regular Season, the team ended in 13th position in the East with a poor 21-61 record.
Assistant at his college in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, from 2012 to 2014, he then moved up to the NBA teams’ coaching staff. Joining Atlanta in 2014, he stayed there for four seasons before joining Milwaukee, where he won the 2021 NBA Championship assisting head coach Mike Budenholzer.
He was serving as an assistant coach in Boston and will finish his chapter there until this year’s NBA season is over before moving to Charlotte in the 2024-25 NBA season. The Celtics are currently leading the series against Cleveland 1-0 in the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals.
During his career as a shooting guard, after ending his college experience with Bucknell Bison, he played overseas basketball with Hapoel Gilboa/Afula in Israel and Verviers-Pepinster in Belgium, before moving to Germany in 2008 to join BG Gottingen first and Artland Dragons later on.
A new chapter begins. We’re thrilled to announce the new Head Coach of your Charlotte Hornets, Coach Charles Lee! 🐝👏
