Frank Vogel is no longer the head coach of the Phoenix Suns, the club announced. Vogel was sacked following the team’s disappointing sweeping elimination to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs with a 0 – 4 sweep.

Per Suns:

The Phoenix Suns announced today that they have dismissed Frank Vogel as head coach.

“As we said in the press conference on May 1, team leadership including myself, Josh Bartelstein, and ownership would be looking across basketball operations to determine what changes needed to be made,” said Suns President of Basketball Operations and General Manager James Jones. “After a thoughtful review of the season, we concluded that we needed a different head coach for our team. We appreciate Frank’s hard work and commitment.

“We are here to win a championship and last season was way below our expectations,” Jones added. “We will continue to evaluate our operation and make the necessary changes to reach our championship-aspiring goals. We all take accountability and it’s my job, along with Josh and ownership to build a championship team.”

Despite adding superstar Kevin Durant and three-time NBA All-Star Bradley last summer to pair with franchise star Devin Booker, the Suns finished the regular season sixth in the West and then suffered a 4-0 sweep by the Timberwolves for an early playoff exit.
