Before getting only four wins away from his first-ever NBA Championship, Kristaps Porzingis had to go through different stages: from getting booed when drafted by the Knicks to experiencing tough moments in Dallas and Washington, all the way until the Finals with Boston.
Interviewed by The New York Post, the Latvian power forward reflected on his first moments in the league with the blue-and-orange franchise. “I was a kid full of ignorance and ready to take on the world, which is adequate for that kind of year”, he said.
“But now I’m much more mature and have a different kind of mindset. And I’m in a perfect situation for me which is what I wanted from the beginning, to play on the biggest stage for a championship. Nothing else”, the former Washington Wizards player added.
Missing more than five weeks of action, the 28-year-old will be available for Joe Mazzulla to start the series against Dallas. “It will be tough to jump into the Finals like this. I did everything I could to prepare for it and we’ll see”, he commented.
After the end of the NBA Finals with Boston taking on the Dallas Mavericks, Kristaps Porzingis should travel back to his home country to play with Latvia in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament, as Luca Banchi included him in the 24-man extended list.
