The Los Angeles Lakers wanted to make Dan Hurley, a back-to-back NCAA champion, one of the highest-paid NBA coaches, but he has turned down the offer.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Hurley rejected a six-year, $70 million offer and will return to UConn to pursue a third straight national title.

The Lakers were prepared to make Hurley one of the six highest-paid coaches in the NBA. However, before entering discussions with the Lakers, Hurley had already received an offer from UConn to become one of the highest-paid coaches in the NCAA.

After weeks of pursuing Hurley, the Lakers will continue interviewing candidates, aiming to hire a coach by the NBA draft later this month.

New Orleans Pelicans assistant James Borrego remains a candidate, and the Lakers might also formally interview JJ Redick, who has been linked to the job.
