JJ Redick appears to be the new head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Redick accepted the Lakers‘ offer Thursday (20/6), agreeing to a four-year deal to take over the team.
Wojnarowski also reports that Redick, a former NBA player for 15 years, is compiling a staff of experienced coaches to accompany him on his new post. This is going to be Redick’s first coaching job.
Redick emerged as a favorite for the Lakers’ vacant head coach position after Uconn’s Dan Hurley rejected the team’s offer. Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka had conversations with Redick in the previous week and the two sides met again in the previous days, with the presence of club owner Jeanie Buss.
After these conversations, Pelinka offered Redick the job and the latter is the one to succeed Darvin Ham.
After his retirement as a player in 2021, Redick became an NBA analyst for ESPN. Since March 2024, he and Lakers superstar LeBron James have been co-hosting the Mind the Game podcast.
