Joining the New York Knicks during the season as part of a package that sent RJ Barrett to the Toronto Raptors, OG Anunoby has ultimately agreed on a five-year $212.5 million contract extension with the franchise, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. This is the largest deal in Knicks’ history.
Chosen with the 23rd pick in the 2017 NBA Draft by Toronto, he stayed with the Canadian team until this past season. He won the NBA Championship in 2019 and made it to the All-NBA Defensive Second Team in 2023 after leading the whole league in steals per game (2.3).
Since moving to Madison Square Garden, in the 2023-24 he has been averaging 14.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game. The New York Knicks went all the way to the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals, losing to the Indiana Pacers.
Just a few hours after bringing Mikal Bridges to the team, joining former Villanova teammates Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, and Donte DiVincenzo, this is another move to strengthen Tom Thibodeau’s team.
Born in London to Nigerian parents, the 26-year-old wing is yet to debut with the British national team internationally.
