Evan Fournier is currently in France preparing with his country’s national team for the Paris Olympics, but he needs also to find a new club.
According to The Athletic’s James L. Edwards III, the Pistons are declining the $19 million option on Fournier’s contract for the 2024-25 season, making him an unrestricted free agent.
Considering the price tag on Fournier’s contract, this is an expected move, considering that at 31 years of age, Fournier was the second-oldest player on the Pistons, who continued to struggle amid their ongoing rebuild and finished the year ranked last in the Eastern Conference with a 14-68 record.
After being traded from the Knicks, where he was out of the rotation, in 29 games in Detroit, coming mainly off the bench, Fournier was averaging 7.2 points in 18.7 minutes of action.
The 20th pick of the 2012 NBA draft has already a solid NBA career proving he can be a scoring threat mainly during his years in Orlando.
Considering his age and experience it’s obvious that there’s a market for him in the NBA, however, he is expected also to be one of the most coveted NBA free agents from European clubs.
