The Oklahoma City Thunder selected Nikola Topic as the 12th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.
The talented Serbian point guard, who played for Mega and Crvena Zvezda in his home country, is presented as an OKC player and confirmed that he’ll undergo surgery for his partially torn ACL, as reported by Clemente Almanza.
Oklahoma already had a similar case with Chet Holmgren after the 2022 Draft, as the second overall pick missed the entire first season due to a Lisfranc injury in his foot.
“I’m really grateful that they have experience with Chet, who didn’t play his first season,” Topic said. “We assume that that will be the case with me. I’m really, really grateful for the opportunity. I’ll try my best to be the best version of myself.”
Despite the news about his injury, Topic was in good spirits and picked the No. 44 jersey in his new club, the same one he donned at Crvena Zvezda.
“I’ll play hard. Give 150% for every ball, every possession, every defense. I’ll do whatever it takes to win,” the young Serbian player added.
He also mentioned the former OKC point guard, his fellow countryman, Vasilije Micic.
“I’m really grateful to be here with this great organization. I heard a lot about them from Vasilije Micic. I’m really, really grateful for the opportunity.”
