Nikola Jokic wants to play with Russell Westbrook and has been trying to get the Denver Nuggets to acquire the veteran star guard according to Harrison Wind of DNVR Sports.
Here’s what Wind said:
“I’ve been told that Nikola Jokic actually has been pushing behind the scenes to get Westbrook to Denver. I’ve been told that Nikola Jokic wants Westbrook in Denver. He wants to play with him. It’s not the first time. He’s wanted to play with him.”
It’s not clear if Jokic’s recruitment efforts have extended to trying to convince Westbrook himself to come to Denver and join the Nuggets.
While Westbrook is reported to be picking up the 2024-25 option he has in his contract with the Los Angeles Clippers, there are also reports that the club is working toward trading him. The 35-year-old former MVP and a nine-time All-Star is to earn $4 million in the upcoming season.
Westbrook who’s going to be 36 in November, averaged 11.1 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists in 22.5 minutes over 68 games in the 2023-24 regular season.
