After winning the NBA championship with the Boston Celtics, Jayson Tatum is set to become the player with the largest contract in the history of the league based in North America.

Tatum, 26, will sign a five-year super max contract worth approximately 315 million dollars, as reported by numerous NBA insiders on Monday. The contract extension lasts through the 2029-30 season.

Joining the C’s as the third overall pick of the 2017 NBA draft, coming out of Duke, the native of St. Louis has been named in the All-Star Game between 2020 and 2024, an ongoing streak highlighted by getting the nod of the most valuable player in 2023. Over the last three seasons, he was also placed in the All-NBA First team, after settling for the Third Team in 2020.

In the 2024 NBA Playoffs presented by Google Pixel, Tatum averaged 25.0 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game over 19 appearances. Featuring 74 games of the 2023-24 Regular Season, he tallied 26.9 points per contest.

Similar to remaining free agents in the NBA, the contract extension with the Celtics can become official after league restrictions are lifted on July 6.

Besides Tatum, Derrick White will ink a four-year contract extension securing 125.9 million dollars, as reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Latvian Kristaps Porzingis is under contract until the end of the 2025-26 season. Jaylen Brown, Jrue Holiday, and Al Horford are among the other contracted players of the team coached by Joe Mazzulla.
