Looking to build around Donovan Mitchell, the Cleveland Cavaliers are set to announce a contract extension for the 27-year-old American combo guard.

Mitchell, 27, agreed to sign a three-year contract extension worth 150.3 million dollars, as reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on Tuesday.

Adding to his previous contract and covering a player option for the 2025-26 season, the new deal lasts through the 2027-28 season.

In the 2023-24 season, he put up 27.1 points, 5.8 assists, 5.1 rebounds, 1.8 steals, and 0.5 blocks per contest over 65 games played between the Regular Season and the Playoffs presented by Google Pixel. After averaging 28.7 points per game in the opening round of the postseason against the Orlando Magic, he dropped 31.7 points per game in the Eastern Conference Semifinals versus the Boston Celtics before ending up on the injury list after Game 3. On the way to the NBA championship, the C’s went on to eliminate the Cavs in five games, sweep the Indiana Pacers in the East Finals, and take down the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals presented by YouTube TV.

Coming out of Louisville, the combo guard was selected with the 13th overall pick of the 2017 draft by the Denver Nuggets and immediately traded to the Utah Jazz. After five years with his first team in the league, including three nods for the annual All-Star Game, he was traded to the Cavs in 2022 and extended his All-Star streak to five consecutive appearances.
