Davis Bertans and Latvia are through to the final of the 2024 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Riga, but during the semifinal match against Cameroon, Shams Charania from The Athletic announced the news regarding the sharpshooter’s NBA status.

Reportedly, the Charlotte Hornets are waiving the 31-year-old Latvian, who had a partial guarantee on his deal.

Bertans joined Charlotte last February from the Oklahoma City Thunder in a trade alongside Vasilije Micic. He played 28 games with the Hornets, averaging 8.8 points on 38% shooting from beyond the arc.

The experienced shooter has been part of the NBA since 2016, playing for the San Antonio Spurs, Washington Wizards, and Dallas Mavericks before joining OKC in the summer of 2023.

His focus is now solely on the Latvian national team, which will face Brazil in the FIBA OQT finals for a spot at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Pokusevski also getting waived

Shams Charania reported that the Charlotte Hornets have also decided to waive Serbian forward Aleksej Pokusevski.

The former 17th overall draft pick joined the Hornets last February after parting ways with the Oklahoma City Thunder, where he spent the first three and a half years of his NBA career.

Pokusevski played 18 games for the Hornets last season, averaging 7.4 points and 4.4 rebounds.

He is currently with the Serbian national team, preparing for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics.
