Besides monitoring the Summer League roster of the Toronto Raptors, team president Masai Ujiri updated the Sasha Vezenkov situation on Saturday.
“We are still having that conversation,” he mentioned during the television broadcast of the game against the Oklahoma City Thunder in Las Vegas, relays Blake Murphy of Sportsnet.
With talks about possibly releasing him from his contract ongoing, Vezenkov picked Olympiacos for his career’s next step, as Eurohoops reported in early July. His contract with the Raptors is fully guaranteed for the next season and carries a team option for one more season.
“He had a tough time in the NBA last year. We are trying to figure it out, and what he wants to do. The right decision will be made,” Ujiri continued on the 28-year-old forward.
Leaving Olympiacos as the most valuable player of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague in 2023, Vezenkov joined the Sacramento Kings. He tallied 5.4 points and 2.3 rebounds per contest over 42 appearances in the Regular Season.
“I think he is a phenomenal player, had a tough season last season, those things happen, great shooter. Whatever happens, we are going to make the best out of this situation. We support him in every way and we know where our team is going. So hopefully soon,” added Ujiri.
Awaiting developments on whether he will stay in the NBA for a second straight year or return to the Reds and the EuroLeague, Vezenkov recently visited a summer training camp of Cyprus champion Keravnos.
