The New York Knicks are signing head coach Tom Thibodeau to a three-year extension according to ESPN. The veteran coach is projected to stay at the helm of the team until 2028.

This deal arrives following one of the best seasons for the Knicks during the last decade. New York finished second in the East standings with a 50 – 32 record and made the conference semifinals for a second straight season. They were beaten 3-4 by the Indiana Pacers amid several injury issues.

Thibodeau took over the Knicks in 2020. In his first season, the team got the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference after finishing 12th in the previous year, to make the playoffs for the first time after 2013. He was named Coach of the Year, an award he had also won in 2011 when he was coaching the Chicago Bulls.
