Nikola Jokic and Vasilije Micic teamed up successfully for Serbia in the 2024 Olympic Games to push their national team to win the bronze medal. It’s now possible that they could join forces also in the NBA.
The Denver Nuggets have shown interest in getting Vasilije Micic via trade from the Charlotte Hornets, according to Marc Stein. Micic’s contract with the Hornets is projected to earn him 7.7 million in 2024-25 while there’s an 8.1 million team option for the following season.
If the Nuggets and the Hornets reach an agreement for a swap then Micic may join his friend and Serbia teammate Jokic in Denver.
Denver’s system and Jokic’s presence can provide Micic with an environment that would potentially help him become an asset for a championship-aspiring NBA team. After the Hornets acquired him via a trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder, the 30-year-old guard averaged 10.8 points and 6.2 assists over 30 games.
Before he signed with the Thunder in 2023, Micic had emerged as one of the best players outside the NBA. He was named EuroLeague MVP in 2021 while winning Final Four MVP in 2021 and 2022 to claim the championship title with Turkish side Anadolu Efes.
