Vernon Maxwell played against some of the élite offensive players during the 90s in the NBA, facing huge offensive-minded superstars like Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Reggie Miller, and more.
Among them, there was Drazen Petrovic. Joining Jeff Teague and Club 520 Podcast, the now 58-year-old former professional player spoke about the Mozart of basketball, also drawing a comparison with one of the most important players in today’s NBA landscape.
“Oh boy, [Drazen] Petrovic. That mother**cker was something else, man. God bless you. I used to tell Rudy Tomjanovich “Treat this mother**cker like you treat Michael Jordan”, he opened.
He revealed his interactions with his former head coach, stating he wanted to prove his defensive value. “When he comes out the game bring my ass out the game, when he comes to the goddamn table let me meet him at the table. I don’t want anybody else to guard this mother**cker”, he shared.
“That was the hardest coverage in the world. I miss this mother**cker, man. He was a killer, he was unbelievable. This guy would have been so special”, Vernon Maxwell also said.
When the comparison with Luka Doncic was brought to the table, he shared the same opinion. “I agree. Luka [Doncic] is a killer too”, the two-time NBA Champion with the Houston Rockets commented about the Slovenian phenomenon.
