Like other established basketball figures, Boban Marjanovic is in Ljubljana to celebrate Goran Dragic’s career in his last-ever game organized by the Dragon’s Foundation.
Interviewed by Meridian Sport in the Slovenian capital, the 36-year-old veteran center revealed his will to stay in the NBA. “Every time you make plans, it doesn’t work out. Plans always change. Here, I first wanted to come by plane, but we arrived by car. I have no plans. I enjoy every segment of life. I’m waiting for the NBA, but if it doesn’t happen, there is a lot on paper going on. But let’s move on”, he said.
Agreeing to a one-year deal last summer with the Houston Rockets, he then averaged 3.2 points and 2.3 rebounds per game in the 2023-24 NBA season. Now a free agent, he has been part of the league since 2015, when he was signed by San Antonio after dominating the scene with Crvena Zvezda.
After playing with the Spurs, he was also part of the rotation with the Detroit Pistons, the Los Angeles Clippers, the Philadelphia 76ers, and the Dallas Mavericks before staying two years in Houston.
He also spoke about Serbia’s run at the 2024 Olympic Games. “First of all, it’s an amazing experience to watch your friends fight. We have such a good team. I am friends with all of them, I know how they functioned as a team. And that’s really remarkable. […] There is still regret for that loss against Team USA. That hurts a little. But a bronze is a bronze, a medal! An extraordinary success for us as a country, for them as individuals and, of course, for our basketball”, he commented.
The Serbian giant will play in tonight’s farewell game to honor Goran Dragic’s legacy at the “The Night of the Dragon” event at Ljubljana’s Stozice Arena. He was selected by his former teammate in Dallas Luka Doncic, and he will be part of his team alongside Bogdan Bogdanovic, Luis Scola, and more.
“I saw people here that I haven’t seen in a long time. It’s nice just to meet them here. It’s fascinating how many people and faces there are in one place. It will be a nice event. Gogi is a fascinating guy, not to mention what kind of player he was. He deserves this”, he said about the event.
Will we see tomorrow Dirk Nowitzki, Dejan Bodiroga, Steve Nash, Bosh, Danilovic, Nesterovic and Scola on the court? #Nightofthedragon will be interesting pic.twitter.com/c6CUXk3Wpy
