Memphis Grizzlies waive former NBA MVP Derrick Rose

Despite signing a two-year deal last season, the Memphis Grizzlies have decided to waive point guard Derrick Rose, according to Shams Charania.

The former NBA MVP signed a two-year, $6.55 million contract in June 2023 but played only 24 games last season, averaging eight points and 3.3 assists.

His season was cut short after the team allowed him time to recover from lower back and right groin injuries. Now, Rose is a free agent.

Rose is best known for his early career, when he became the NBA Rookie of the Year in 2009 and the youngest league MVP in 2011 with the Chicago Bulls.

Injuries prevented him from having an even greater career, and now the soon-to-be 36-year-old guard is searching for a new team.
