The former PAOK and Barcelona player, U.S. power forward Jerrod Mustaf, passed away today on his 55th birthday.
Mustaf was the 17th overall pick in the 1990 NBA Draft by the New York Knicks and spent four years in the league, also donning the Phoenix Suns jersey.
After leaving the NBA, he moved to Europe in 1994 with PAOK Thessaloniki, then played in Spain for Festina Andorra and in France for Strasbourg before joining Barcelona in 1996. After two years with the Catalan team, he also played for Paris Basket Racing, Prokom Trefl Sopot in Poland, and finished his career in Turkey with Altay Kartal Makarna.
“Jerrod Mustaf has left us, a former Barcelona player from 1996 to 1998. He was an ACB League champion in the 1996/97 season,” Barcelona announced.
Following his professional basketball career, Mustaf served as the CEO and president of the Street Basketball Association based in Mitchellville, Maryland. He was also a former sports ambassador for Gambia, an NBA blogger for Supersport/Multivision, executive director of the Take Charge Juvenile Diversion Program, and the founder and head coach of the Take Charge Pride AAU organization.
