The matchup between reigning NBA MVP Nikola Jokic and DPOY Rudy Gobert defined the game between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Denver Nuggets at clutch time.
With 10 seconds remaining, Gobert sank a pair of free throws to put the Timberwolves up 119 – 116. Jokic then carried the ball to the other end and tried to tie the game but the French center played some excellent defense, contesting the shot and forcing him into an airball.
Gobert finished the game with 17 points and 14 rebounds while Jokic had 26 points, 13 assists and nine boards. Thanks to his latest output, the Serbian big man became the first player in NBA history to register 150 points, 50 rebounds and 50 assists over the first five games of the regular season.
