NBA star Kevin Durant is apparently in no hurry to sign a new deal with the Phoenix Suns, with a reported $124 million deal on the table from 2025 onwards. If he were to commit to a new deal now, it would amount to far less, with a $59.5 million one-year deal being eligible right now.

The 36-year-old, two-time NBA champion moved to the Footprint Center in February 2023 and has helped the Phoenix Suns to the postseason in his two seasons with the Arizona-based franchise.

If you feel that the Suns could end their run for a first-ever NBA championship in 2024/25, then why not back your hunch with a wager? To help make the largest possible payout, we suggest using these NBA betting apps, with this analysis aiding your pursuit of a successful bet.

Durant, a 14-time NBA All-Star, still has a great deal to offer and has enjoyed a successful summer, playing a key role in the United States basketball team’s gold medal win in Paris, his fourth gold medal having also picked up the prized asset in 2012, 2016 and 2020 previously.

Kevin Durant would be a free agent in 2026, hence the increased deal in 2025 and as his side were knocked out in the first round of the playoffs last season, he may be looking to assess how the Suns compete in 2024/25 before seeking to commit to a longer spell.

After losing to the Minnesota Timberwolves in four games at the first hurdle of the postseason, Frank Vogel was fired by Phoenix and replaced by Mike Budenholzer, who helped the Milwaukee Bucks to their first NBA title in fifty years.

Durant put in a strong display as the Phoenix Suns won their first game of the new season, scoring 25 points in an exciting 116-113 overtime win over the Los Angeles Clippers at the Intuit Dome, the first game played at the California franchise’s new home.

On his contractual status, Durant commented,

“I’m not even thinking about it,”

“I’m just going to play out my contract really, and just focus on that. Focus on the team. I haven’t even really had conversations with anybody about a contract. Trying to focus on basketball.”

“I’ve been blessed enough to be in this position for 18 years and so I’m not really focused on the money part of it,”

“I’m just trying to keep getting better and keep growing my game and see how good I can get. That’s always been my main focus. When the time comes, the time comes. Right now, I got two seasons left on my deal so I’m going to focus on those two.” Durant added.

There has been much speculation of a potential trade that would see Durant leave, but that’s not something Suns CEO Josh Bartelstein is concerned about.

“The most important thing is Kevin loves being here and we love having Kevin here,” Bartlestein stated.
