A new career-high 50 points by Victor Wembanyama in a win, 139-130, for the San Antonio Spurs over the Washington Wizards and multiple familiar faces from France.
“Really, my first thought is, eventually I want the rest of our performances, the rest of our games to overshadow this one,” reacted the French prodigy, “I wish, I want to make it so that in the future it’s just another one.”
The eruption was fueled by 18/29 field goals, including eight three-pointers. This was his third straight outing in the 2024-25 NBA Regular Season with at least six triples.
“Probably not. Who does everything at a high level?” Lithuanian center Jonas Valanciunas replied to a question about Wemby, “We did everything to take that away but he still managed somehow.”
His previous career-high was 49 points in an overtime win against the New York Knicks. He became the fourth-youngest player to reach the 50-point mark, following Brandon Jennings, LeBron James, and Devin Booker.
“Some days you feel great and you have bad games. Some days you feel bad and you have great games,” he mentioned.
Besides his 50 points, he piled up six rebounds, three blocks, two assists, and one steal over 32 minutes.
On the opposite end, former Metropolitans 92 teammate Bilal Coulibaly finished with six points, eight rebounds, three assists, and one block. Fellow starter and fellow French upstart, Alex Sarr had 12 points, including a poster dunk on Wembanyama. Coming off the bench, Valanciunas posted a 16-point, 13-rebound double-double.
