During the latest NBA Cup night, the San Antonio Spurs suffered a 120-115 loss at home to the Los Angeles Lakers, but Victor Wembanyama finished with a dominant stat line regardless.
Last year’s No.1 overall pick in the NBA Draft and 2023-24 Rookie of the Year had a huge double-double performance of 28 points and 14 rebounds, adding 5 assists, 1 steal, and 2 blocks as well. The 20-year-old phenomenon shot 12/25 from the field including 4/13 from deep.
During the game, he suffered a knee injury scare and quickly rushed to the locker room before returning to the court. Later on, ESPN’s Michael Wright reported that “Victor Wembanyama’s looked a tad hobbled leaving his press availability after banging knees with Anthony Davis in Friday’s game”.
In the post-game, Victor Wembanyama addressed his team’s growth this season. “Collectively, we are more in control of the situation. There are fewer ups and downs: it is not yet linear but we are better than last year. We must continue in this direction”, he said as reported by Theo Quintard.
Averaging a double-double of 22.3 points and 10.2 rebounds per night, Victor Wembanyama is still rolling and performing as one of the best players in the NBA. The Spurs are tied in 10th position with the Los Angeles Clippers at a 6-7 record in the Western Conference, and 0-1 in the NBA Cup.
