The Minnesota Timberwolves pulled away late for a 106-92 victory versus the San Antonio Spurs in Frost Bank Center on NBA Sundays.
“They were making everything hard for us, those little details,” Victor Wembanyama reacted to his side falling to 13-13 in the 2024-25 NBA Regular Season.
“The very top is not far away. It’s a short way, a very tough one, but it’s right there,” added the 20-year-old French big on the crowded race to reach the top of the Western Conference standings.
Facing international teammate Rudy Gobert, Wemby produced a 20-point, 12-rebound double-double alongside seven blocks and five assists. Polish Jeremy Sochan posted a 17-point, 15-rebound double-double plus four assists, two steals, and one block.
“I think a huge part of our motor, especially in defense, going from defense to offense,” Wembanyama shared on his 21-year-old teammate returning to the starting lineup, “I like playing with him. He knows where to be to catch the ball, to get open.”
Reserve European options for interim head coach Mitch Johnson included French Sidy Cissoko tucking in two triples in three minutes. Georgian Sandro Mamukelashvili went for three points, one assist, and one rebound over eight minutes.
On the winning end, Gobert tallied ten points, nine rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one block. The experienced French center lasted just under 35 minutes, helping the Wolves jump to 14-11. Bosnian Luka Garza scored four points in three minutes and Dutch Jesse Edwards was on a G League assignment.
