Sidelined since suffering a mild stroke in November, Gregg Popovich released a statement via the San Antonio Spurs on Monday.

“This has certainly been an unexpected six weeks for my family and me. As we work together on my recovery, I want to take a moment to share that the outpouring of support we’ve received during this time has been truly overwhelming in the best possible way. While I wish I could get back to each one of you, for now, let me say that my family and I are forever grateful. We’re thankful for our wonderful community, the entire Spurs organization, and our family and friends,” he wrote, “No one is more excited to see me return to the bench than the talented individuals who have been leading my rehabilitation process. They’ve quickly learned that I’m less than coachable.”

Coming out of his first public statement after the stroke, the president and head coach of the franchise is eager to resume his duties with the Spurs. However, a timeline for his return remains unclear.

Since stepping away from the franchise to focus on his health, his assistant Mitch Johnson is working as the interim head coach, leading French prodigy Victor Wembanyama and the remaining players in the 2024-25 NBA Regular Season.

Battling for a playoff spot, the Spurs currently sit at 13-13 in the Regular Season amid a three-game homestand starting with a loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on the latest edition of NBA Sundays.
