Sacramento fired head coach Mike Brown, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported, one day after the team collapsed in a brutal 114-113 loss to the Detroit Pistons at Golden 1 Center.
The Kings have lost five consecutive games and sit at 13-18 entering Saturday’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers, having a 6-12 record at home.
The unexpected move to dismiss Brown comes just five months after he signed a multiyear contract extension, reportedly a three-year, $30 million deal.
Brown was credited two seasons ago for making the Kings again a force in the West. However, the rise of the team which returned to the playoffs in 2023 and lost to the Warriors in Game 7, didn’t continue last year.
This season, the addition of DeMar DeRozan also hasn’t been so far a success, nor has changed the outlook of the team.
Per the same report, Doug Christie is expected to be the Sacramento Kings’ interim head coach. Christie has been an assistant with the Kings since 2021-22 and played in Sacramento for five of his 15 NBA seasons.
