Since surprisingly coming overseas with Zalgiris Kaunas, Lonnie Walker IV’s impact has lived up to expectations. Now, it might be time for him to return to the NBA.
According to experienced reporter Marc Stein, the 26-year-old American guard is drawing interest from five different franchises: the Boston Celtics—with whom he signed a 10-day contract before this season—the Philadelphia 76ers, the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Miami Heat, and the Denver Nuggets.
Lonnie Walker IV has an active release clause on his contract valued at $450.000. The clause is valid until February 18 and could allow him to return to the NBA with any team.
Coached by Andrea Trinchieri in Lithuania, he has been posting 14.7 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game in 11 EuroLeague games for Zalgiris, which is currently in the Play-In picture at 10-8.
Before moving to Europe, Lonnie Walker IV spent six seasons in the NBA, playing for the San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Lakers, and Brooklyn Nets. Overall, stepping on the court for 322 total appearances, he has averaged 9.8 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game.
