When one of the best players in the world goes up against one of the dominators of the sport for the upcoming years, a spectacle is expected to take place.
And that’s exactly what happened as the San Antonio Spurs beat the Denver Nuggets 113-110 on the road, with Victor Wembanyama and Nikola Jokic putting up a show for the ages.
Last season’s Rookie of the Year was once again phenomenal in his sophomore season, ending with a crazy double-double of 35 points and 18 rebounds, while also stealing a crucial possession with four seconds left in the game from Nikola Jokic.
The two-time NBA Regular Season MVP, instead, was inches away from his 15th triple-double of the season, finishing with a monster stat line of 41 points, 18 rebounds, and 9 assists.
Speaking in the post-game press conference, Nikola Jokic described Victor Wembanyama as “one of a kind”, a player who “will be remembered forever”.
The French unicorn also praised his opponent. “I really enjoyed playing Jokic, he’s a three-time MVP, as he’ll be again soon. You can’t do better to improve yourself. He taught me a lot. When Mike Malone says the Spurs use me like the Nuggets use Jokic, I take that as a compliment”, he said.
