The first of two back-to-back games between the Denver Nuggets and the San Antonio Spurs ended with a win for Victor Wembanyama’s team.
However, Nikola Jokić got his payback, winning the second game 122-111 in overtime with a monstrous performance.
The Serbian center finished the match with 26 points, 10 assists, and nine rebounds, shooting 19/35 from the field and becoming the first player since Kobe Bryant in 2007 to attempt 35 field goals in back-to-back matches.
Wembanyama also didn’t disappoint, recording an impressive double-double of 20 points and 23 rebounds, along with three assists and four blocks.
Giannis’ double-double falls short against Avdija and the Trail Blazers
Besides another epic encounter between Jokić and Wembanyama, the star of the night was Anthony Edwards, who scored 53 points in a 119-105 loss to the Detroit Pistons. The Ant-Man finished the game with more points than the rest of the Minnesota Timberwolves combined, as the others scored a total of 52 points.
After the Chicago Bulls announced they are retiring Derrick Rose’s No. 1 jersey, Nikola Vučević was among the best in a 139-126 win over the New York Knicks, recording a double-double of 22 points and 12 rebounds. OG Anunoby contributed 12 points for the visitors at the United Center.
Amid the Jimmy Butler saga, the Miami Heat suffered another heavy loss, falling to the Utah Jazz 100-136, with Lauri Markkanen scoring 15 points for the winning team. Nikola Jović delivered a solid performance but couldn’t prevent his team’s defeat despite scoring a team-high 17 points.
The Milwaukee Bucks fell to the Portland Trail Blazers at home 102-105 despite Giannis Antetokounmpo’s 31 points and 11 rebounds. Deni Avdija shined for the winning team with 19 points and 14 rebounds, while Toumani Camara added 15 points.
Dennis Schröder was on the verge of a double-double with 17 points and nine assists in a Golden State Warriors’ 121-113 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies. Ivica Zubac had an impressive double-double of 18 points and 18 rebounds in a 131-105 LA Clippers win over the Atlanta Hawks, whose Zaccharie Risacher scored 13 points.
