The start of 2025 brought two special back-to-back games. Nikola Jokić and the Denver Nuggets faced off against Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs in two truly epic encounters.

The first one ended with the Spurs winning in the dying moments, and the Nuggets got their payback in overtime in the second match, with Jokić nearly reaching a monstrous triple-double with 46 points and 10 assists.

After the game, the Serbian center and three-time NBA MVP spoke about how duels with players like Wembanyama make him put in extra effort, praising the Frenchman, who he called a player who “will be remembered forever” after the first clash.

He’s a special player, and those kinds of players always make you work harder, do a little bit extra. I’m looking forward to playing against him in the coming years,” Jokić said.

Wembanyama finished the second match against the Joker with 20 points and 23 rebounds. Even though he insists he wants to win games and that it’s not enough to just play well, the French prodigy admits he had a great learning experience matching up against a giant like Jokić.

I learned a lot of things. How he makes his teammates better, how I should guard him… It’s a lot. I will watch his games and I’m sure I will notice more,” Wembanyama said.
