Another NBA star is out of the race for the regular season awards

Memphis Grizzlies star guard Ja Morant won’t be taking any 2024-25 NBA regular season awards.

By sitting out the 140-122 win over the San Antonio Spurs Friday (17/1), Morant missed his 18th game in the season so far. According to the NBA rules players must have at least 65 under their belt to be eligible for individual trophies.

This is similar to Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic’s case. The Slovenian player was among the MVP candidates once again but won’t be finishing the season with the obligatory 65 game appearances.

Following his return to action after undergoing shoulder surgery a year ago, Morant has been having a productive season with 21.4 points, 7.5 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals. These numbers could arguably give him a spot on an All-NBA Team, given that the Grizzlies are 27 -15.
