Charlotte Hornets guard Vasilije Micic commended his Serbia teammate Nikola Jokic ahead of the game of his team against the Joker’s Denver Nuggets Saturday.

Micic, who first met Jokic when they were both teenagers playing on the same team in Serbia, called the three-time MVP a model for other NBA big names.

“We’ve known each other since 18 or 19. We played together in Mega,” Micic said after the Horents’ 104-112 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers. “He came from a very small team. We spent two years together. I didn’t really believe that he would be that good but it was obvious that he’s super talented. We’re very close. He’s a specific guy. Very humble. Very quiet. He lives in his own city. Great example for every superstar in the NBA. Happy to see him tomorrow.”

Micic and Jokic joined forces last summer as Serbia won the bronze medal in the 2024 Olympic Games. They previously played together for the “Orlovi” in the 2022 EuroBasket and the 2019 FIBA World Cup.

So far in 2024-25, Micic, a former EuroLeague season and Final Four MVP, is averaging 7.5 points, 3.5 assists and 2.4 rebounds in 21.2 minutes over 34 games. He scored a season-high-tying 20 points vs. the Clippers.
