Klay Thompson joined the Dallas Mavericks in the summer of 2024 creating buzz following his departure from the Golden State Warriors.
Ideally, he would have taken part in a three-headed monster with Kyrie Irving and, most importantly, the franchise player Luka Doncic. However, the Slovenian phenomenon was shockingly traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis.
Following the 144-101 loss to Cleveland, Klay Thompson touched on Doncic’s departure. “I wish Luka the best. It was a joy to play with him in those 22 games we were together. We’re obviously going to welcome AD with open arms, one of the best players of all time, being in the Top 75,” he opened.
Klay Thompson on the trade that sent Luka Doncic to the Lakers:

“It’s the nature of the business. Obviously, you have to be professional with all things in front of you and I look forward to keeping the goal the same,” he added.
Later on, the formidable shooting specialist compared Luka Doncic’s trade to the Los Angeles Lakers with LeBron James’ move to the Miami Heat in the offseason.
“It’s similar to LeBron when he went to Miami. Obviously, that was on his own accord, but still, Luka put up similar numbers to LeBron, so… He is a franchise player, and I’m sure he’ll enjoy the sunshine in Cali,” the former Warriors veteran player commented.
