With new teammate Luka Doncic approaching his debut with the Los Angeles Lakers, LeBron James delivered 42 points, fueling a win, 120-112, over the Golden State Warriors and Stephen Curry in crypto.com Arena on Thursday.

The 40-year-old forward became the oldest player to score at least 40 points in a single NBA game. Overall, he was the second over 40 with such a production after Michael Jordan.

“What do I think? That I’m old,” he reacted, “I need a glass of wine and some sleep. That’s the first thing I think about.”

“The biggest thing is we got the win, obviously,” he commented on his latest link to Jordan “But throughout my journey, anytime I’ve been named or in the category or whatever the case, crossed paths with any of the greats, it’s always humbling. Just to know where I come from. And I love the game so much. So it’s pretty cool.”

A throwback to epic battles with Curry over the years extended to the 36-year-old guard piling up 37 points with 13/35 field goals, including six three-pointers. Besides 14/25 from the field, including a crazy sequence of triples in the second quarter, en route to 42 points, LeBron registered 17 rebounds and eight assists.

Slovenian Doncic (left calf strain) and German Maxi Kleber (right foot surgery) were unavailable for the team coached by JJ Redick. Also, French Armel Traore stayed on the bench. Starting for the Warriors, Dutch Quinten Post tallied six points, two assists, and two rebounds over 11 minutes.
