When looking for someone to reinforce their coaching staff ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics, the French basketball federation put their eyes on Kenny Atkinson, who gladly accepted the call.

That wasn’t the current Cleveland Cavaliers‘ head coach’s job internationally, as he previously coached the Dominican Republic for a short stint in 2015 while starting his career as an assistant coach with Paris Basket Racing from 2004 to 2006.

Member of one of the coaching staffs at the 2025 NBA All-Star Game, he was asked about a potential expansion of the NBA in Europe, and he declared his approval, according to Seattle Times.

“That’s hard for me. I don’t know the economics of it. That’s a decision to make. I’m more of a romantic. I know how great FIBA basketball and international basketball are,” he first commented.

“I’d just love one day to go play an NBA team in Madrid or an NBA team in Paris. I know how passionate the fans are. I think it would take the NBA to another level,” he also added.
