Lonnie Walker IV will be leaving the EuroLeague to make his NBA comeback.
Citing Walker’s agent, both Shams Charania and Marc Stein report that the 26-year-old guard is signing a contract with the Philadelphia 76ers, exercising a clause he had in his deal with Zalgiris Kaunas.
Earlier today (18/2), Stein cited Walker’s agent and tweeted that the American swingman has decided to stay in Lithuania and make his return to the NBA next season. A few hours before the expiration of the NBA out in his contract on February 18, he ultimately agreed with the Sixers on a $3 million, two-year deal.
Walker spent three and a half months with Zalgiris after joining the team late in October. He posted 13.6 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 22:17 minutes over 19 games in the EuroLeague while averaging 12.8 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 17:23 minutes through 10 Lithuanian League appearances.
The Sixers will be Walker’s fourth NBA team after the San Antonio Spurs, the Los Angeles Lakers and the Brooklyn Nets.
While the Sixers are bringing another player from the EuroLeague to their roster after forward Guerschon Yabusele, Zalgiris loses one of its top contributors ahead of a crucial stretch for the team’s effort to make the EuroLeague postseason. The Lithuanian side is currently 12-14 and tied with Anadolu Efes for 12th in the standings.
