Heading to a meeting with the Washington Wizards in Kia Center on NBA Sundays, the head coach of the Orlando Magic Jamahl Mosley went back to working with Luka Doncic as an assistant coach of the Dallas Mavericks.

In the pregame press conference, the 46-year-old native of Milwaukee was asked by Ryan Kaminski to describe the desire of the Slovenian sensation to develop his talents during their time together in Dallas.

“All I can remember when he first came got the league and us being there, it was a lot of nights spent in the gym, playing one-on-one with Dorian Finney-Smith and Dennis Smith Jr., of just playing basketball, playing ones, and getting after it, and getting the shot going,” replied Mosley.

“As for the other stuff, I can’t speak on it, because I haven’t been there for four years,” he added referring to the end of his stint with the Mavs in 2021, before taking over head-coaching duties at the Magic, “I’m just focused on what we are trying to accomplish.”

The lack of concentration of the Slovenian superstar in several areas, including work ethic, has emerged as the main reason leading to the Mavericks pulling the trigger on the blockbuster trade and sending him to the Los Angeles Lakers on February 2.

“My recollection of being with him, I constantly remember working, and him being able to work on a consistent basis, because he loves the game of basketball. And when you love the game of basketball, you work at it,” concluded Mosley.

Fittingly, Doncic is set to face his former team with the Lakers hosting the Mavericks in crypto.com Arena on Tuesday.
