The Serbian point guard and former EuroLeague MVP, Vasilije Micic, is still waiting to debut for his newest NBA team, the Phoenix Suns.

Previously playing for the OKC Thunder and Charlotte Hornets, Micic is now in Arizona alongside players like Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal.

I feel good. The city is fantastic, the organization is really good, but obviously, I’m always happy when I get to play. Right now, I have to understand the situation—I’m surrounded by excellent players who have already played together for six months, and some of them for two or three years. So, I have to accept the situation, I have to embrace it, but still stay ready. That’s pretty much it for now,” Micic said to Mundo Deportivo.

He believes he has done his part.

To be honest, I think I’ve done enough. I’ve done enough on my part, let’s say, given the opportunities I’ve been given. I think it’s easy for any player to find rhythm and contribute in a short period of time. But I’m happy—happy with what I’ve shown so far.

The Serbian point guard insists he doesn’t feel undervalued in the NBA, despite struggling to find minutes as a former EuroLeague MVP and champion.

No. Honestly, I don’t care. I always say that everything I achieved in Europe happened for a lot of reasons—there are things you can’t plan. A lot of people doubted me in Europe too when I was young. So, I think that everything I do every day, how hard I work, and how much I love basketball gave me the opportunity to accomplish everything in Europe. I didn’t do it alone—I did it with my team, with the great team I had at Efes. It’s the same story here. I don’t feel like anyone has to treat me like a god, but I definitely feel like I’ve shown enough to be respected by everyone. So, I don’t feel undervalued.”

Micic doesn’t feel any extra pressure due to his NBA contract expiring this summer.

No, I don’t feel any pressure, honestly. As I said, I’ve been very tough on myself in terms of expectations. But now, I feel like anything could happen, and when the season ends, I’ll see what the best situation for me is and I’ll accept it.”

He was asked specifically about potentially joining Barcelona one day if he returns to Europe.

Of course, any team. There are a few teams in Europe that I love, that’s obvious, but right now, I’m really focused on this team (the Suns), on what I have here, and I’m happy to finish the season strong. We’ll see when summer comes,” Vasilije Micic concluded.

Toronto Raptors head coach and Micic’s compatriot, Darko Rajakovic, also shared his thoughts on Vasa’s future.

I think he’s an outstanding player with a lot of experience, a winning player who has been part of the Serbian national team, won European Championships, World Cups (silver in 2023). I truly think that when you come to the NBA later in your life, the adjustment is not easy,” said the Toronto coach. “The game is called the same way, basketball. But European basketball and NBA basketball are two completely different sports. Rules, organization, number of games, travel, there are many things you need to learn and adapt to,” Rajakovic said. “I truly believe that he will find his way in the NBA and will be able to continue his career here.”
