Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets welcomed the Washington Wizards and 2024 No. 2 Draft pick Alex Sarr—but the visitors prevailed.
Despite Jokic nearly recording another 40-point triple-double, Sarr led the Wizards to a surprising 126-123 road victory, capped by Jordan Poole’s game-winner.
Jokic finished with 40 points, 13 rebounds, and nine assists, delivering another impressive Sombor double. He shot 16/30 from the field but struggled from beyond the arc, going 1/8.
“If you remember, when we won the title, we lost a few games toward the end that we shouldn’t have. And then we won the ring. However, we can’t afford to be in that comfort zone just because we’re going to the playoffs. We’re not playing well. We’re lucky to be where we are in the standings—we’re not good. I hope we somehow find a way,” Jokic said after the game.
Poole ultimately secured the win for Washington with a long range three-pointer, but Sarr also had an outstanding performance, posting 34 points, six rebounds, and five assists, becoming the youngest center in NBA history to record 30 points, five rebounds and five assists in a game.
