A painful evening for Domantas Sabonis went from a scary cut over his left eye to injuring his right ankle in the third quarter and being forced to an early exit.
Between setbacks, the 28-year-old Lithuanian big lasted only 12 minutes but the Sacramento Kings took down the Memphis Grizzlies, 132-122, in Golden 1 Center.
Sabonis chipped in six points, four assists, and one rebound. Fellow Lithuanian, Jonas Valanciunas registered eight points, five rebounds, three blocks, and three assists over 16 minutes.
On the losing end, Spanish Santi Aldama (right calf strain) missed a sixth straight game of the 2024-25 NBA Regular Season.
Lithuanian action in Delta Center featured 20-year-old Matas Buzelis piling up 17 points, nine rebounds, two assists, and one block as the Chicago Bulls rocked the Utah Jazz, 111-97.
“I’m just trying to make the right play,” he said in a media session following the game in Salt Lake City on Monday, “If I see someone closing out, I am going to drive to the basket. If they’re not, I’m shooting it.”
“We are focused on the present time,” Buzelis described the team approach to a battle for a spot in the Play-Ins, “We are just going to keep working, trying to get wins, and enjoying the moment.”
Montenegrin teammate Nikola Vucevic chipped in a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double alongside four assists, one block, and one steal.
Playing through right ankle soreness, Finnish Lauri Markkanen logged 23 minutes for the Jazz, tallying 16 points, two rebounds, one block, and one assist. Ukrainian Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk was left out of the lineup.
