Milwaukee Bucks star guard Damian Lillard has sustained “a deep vein thrombosis (blood clot) in his right calf” as the team announced.
The good news according to the same press release is that “Lillard is on blood-thinning medication, which has stabilized the blood clot, and will continue with regular testing.”
However, he is indefinitely out of action and that’s a huge blow for the Bucks who were hoping to make a deep playoffs run.
On paper, the duo of Lillard together with Giannis Antetokounmpo should make the Bucks title contenders. This never happened so far with Giannis getting injured before the post season in the previous season and now the same happening with Lillard.
“Damian’s health is our No. 1 priority,” Bucks general manager Jon Horst said in a statement “We will support him as he moves through this weekly process of strict criteria to ensure that it is safe for him to return to play. Doctors have indicated that his situation is very unlikely to occur again. We are thankful that this was identified and medicated quickly, which helps with the recovery.”
However no timetable for his return is provided.
