In a stunning turn of events, the Memphis Grizzlies are naming assistant Tuomas Iisalo as the interim head coach, per Shams Charania.
The Grizzlies have decided to fire coach Taylor Jenkins, one of the most respected young coaches of the NBA, however, they are giving the team, at least until further notice, to one of the most respected young European coaches.
The Finnish coach has turned heads in Europe after first winning the Basketball Champions League with Ulm and then winning the EuroCup with Paris Basketball.
The next step for him, as Paris got promoted to the EuroLeague, was to leave Europe for the NBA as an assistant coach.
The 42-year-old lisalo has already been named EuroCup Coach of the Year in 2024, BCL Coach of the Year in 2023, French LNB Pro A Coach of the Year in 2024, and German BBL Coach of the Year in both 2022 and 2023.
He is considered an offensive mastermind, well-known in Europe for the uptempo game of his teams.
