The Toronto Raptors quietly extended Darko Rajaković’s contract by picking up the fourth-year option on his deal from the summer of 2023, Sportsnet reports.
This move reflects the team’s belief in his long-term vision, despite the fact that the Canadian team is set to miss the playoffs for a second season under the leadership of the Serbian head coach.
“My personal opinion is that in order to have sustained success, not just success, sustained success, you need to have continuity in the work. I think that’s important, whether it’s from the front office, the roster, or the coaching staff you have — I think all of those ingredients are very important in building a team that’s going to be sustained for a long time and to have a lot of success,” Rajaković recently said.
He also expressed his desire to stay with the Raptors for a long time.
“If you asked me today, tomorrow I’m going to sign a 10-year contract extension. I love the city. I love the people. We have the best fans in the world. I’m absolutely thrilled for the opportunity to build something very special here.”
After a rough start to the current season, Toronto has gone 20-16 since January 12, showing progress under Rajaković. Next season, his challenge will be guiding the team to success now, not just in the future. The Raptors have given him the stability to do so.
