According to seasoned NBA insider Marc Stein, the South Beach franchise remains a fiercely aggressive suitor, growing increasingly desperate to acquire the veteran guard to bolster a revamped core. The Heat are heavily focused on surrounding newly acquired Greek superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo with elite spacing following their blockbuster summer trade.
As detailed during a podcast appearance on DLLS Sports on Monday, securing the four-time champion will require navigating a complex financial and strategic chess match. Miami is determined to land Thompson strictly as a free agent, which directly clashes with the current stance of the Texas front office. Dallas has shown no inclination to waver from its primary objective of finding a suitable trade partner.
The perimeter specialist is entering the final year of a three-year, $50 million agreement he signed in 2024.
